You may have bought your golf cart because they’re easy to own. And that’s true!
Golf carts require pretty minimal maintenance. You just need to do some basic periodic preventative maintenance like the things you’ll read below and you can expect to have your golf cart running for years to come! Read on to see what we consider 3 of the most basic and important golf cart maintenance tasks you can’t afford to ignore. Golf Cart Tire Pressure Golf cart tires are similar to the tires of regular road vehicles like cars or trucks. If they’re properly inflated they will last quite a while but low pressure will cause them to go flat prematurely. On the other hand, if your tires are overinflated they may be prone to wearing down too quickly. They may not have as much traction if they’re overinflated either. Check your golf cart’s tire pressure monthly. It may be a good idea to check them more often than that if you use your cart heavily. Always check with the manufacturer for the ideal tire pressure. Usually it’s around 20-22 PSI but it can vary. Golf Cart Batteries Golf cart batteries are often the first problem a golf cart owner has to deal with but if you do regular maintenance on them you may never have to deal with them in a negative way! It should probably go without saying but make sure that you recharge your battery after each time you use it. Don’t let your battery sit at a depleted level. Doing so will decrease its lifespan. Other good tips for golf cart owners include charging in well-ventilated areas if possible, checking your connections regularly and making sure the vent caps are secure. You may or may not know that the electric charge in batteries if created by using electrolytes and therefore you’ll need to water your battery every so often. Charging the battery using water each time and it will get depleted eventually. Always check the water level in your battery each time you charge it to ensure that its at the proper level. You’ll probably need to water it about once a month. Do not overfill it when you add water as this can cause other problems! Then you might need a repair! Check the owner’s manual to determine how much water to add if there isn’t a clear marking on the battery itself. Alternatively, give us a call and we’d be happy to help you out! Do regular brake and brake light checks You really should be checking the responsiveness of your steering wheel, brakes and brake lights every so often as well. Doing so is not only a safety issue but it can also bring problems to your attention before they get really bad or leave you stranded away from home. Ideally you do it once a week but do it at least once a month. It actually doesn’t take very long to do and it will give you peace of mind. Have someone watch while you flip the headlights on and test the brakes. If something isn’t working properly you’ll likely want to give us a call as problems with braking, steering and/or lighting systems can be complex to repair.
